Kingston, ON - In a stride toward excellence, six selected ringette officials from across Ontario came together October 3-5, 2025, for an intensive and inspiring Officiating Development Camp designed to elevate every facet of their game. Hosted in Kingston during the AAA Development Camp, the camp brought together emerging and experienced officials for a transformative experience that blended athleticism, mental resilience, and real-game application.
The Ringette Ontario Officiating Development Committee invited six officials to attend the development opportunity - Erienne Beuglet, Vivian Dowdall, Hannah McLean, Ethan Sweeney, and Haley Wickens - along with Event Leads Jocelyn Goldhawk and Laura Hickling.
The camp featured two power skating sessions led by Brooke Enns of Competitive Edge Power, Inc. Officials laced up for drills that emphasized agility, edge control, and explosive acceleration—skills essential for keeping pace with the fastest athletes in the sport.
Recognizing that officiating is as mental as it is physical, the camp featured a mental performance session on resetting focus led by certified mental performance coach, Mackenzie Melim. Officials explored techniques and strategies for re-setting focus, explored reacting vs responding, and practiced re-setting routines to use mid-performance.
Workshops on communication, conflict resolution, and leadership rounded out the curriculum. Officials engaged in scenario-based learning, peer feedback, and mentorship opportunities with seasoned veterans. The emphasis was on building confidence, professionalism, and a strong sense of community within the officiating ranks.
The highlight of the weekend was the opportunity to officiate a AAA game. With mentors observing from the stands and providing real-time feedback, officials put their new skills to the test in a fast-paced, competitive environment. The game served as both a proving ground and a celebration of growth.
“This camp was a great way for Ontario ringette officials to kick-start the season and continue building their skills at the high-performance level,” said Goldhawk. “Our focus is not only on developing officials, but also on building leaders in the high-performance officiating world,” added Hickling.
The Ringette Ontario Officiating Development Committee will continue the high performance development of aspiring ringette officials with another opportunity to attend the next AAA camp taking place in Kitchener December 19-21, 2025.
