This month, Ringette Ontario would like to recognize an extraordinary team for our February ’ Team of the Month’ feature: the Barrie and District Association U14 AA.
"Competitive, Strong, Skilled, are only a few of the awesome words the U14AA Barrie Blizzard players have used to describe their fellow teammates. With Ringette Ontario Provincials arriving very soon, 2024 started with an amazing accomplishment and continues to focus on tactical development and off ice activities strengthening team bonds. The Goal for 2024 - Become the first Barrie AA team to capture Gold at a sanctioned Ringette Ontario tournament. The work and efforts towards this goal started during preseason camp and have been expanding to today. Ranging from some who were practically playing ringette in the womb to others who have started playing just three years ago, this team is experiencing the unique dynamic of playing together for the first time this 2024 season. The U14AA roster has 12 skilled skaters and a goalie, which demonstrate dedication and passion, balancing their commitment to ringette and many other offseason sports. The U14AA Barrie Blizzard are characterized by dedication, strength, and focus; qualities that have been nurtured by their Coaches, Bench staff, Managers and Parents. A typical week for the team involves practices, additional ice time for honing edge work skills, dryland training, and video sessions, all culminating in weekend games. Although the team’s early season undefeated streak came to an end mid-season, the team rallied to achieve success in Quebec, emerging as Champions in November at an outstanding event hosted by the Blainville Cavaliers. This was the Barrie Associations first Gold medal at the AA level. A step towards the teams goal. The team has a fun approach to boosting morale and motivation, with elements like dancing and visualization into their routine. Knowing the importance of maintaining high spirits and a positive mindset, they infuse their pre-game rituals with energy and enthusiasm. They create this environment to loosen up, relieve stress, and build connections with one another, creating a supportive environment. The team embraces the importance of nutrition and hydration, with freshly blended smoothies after every tournament game. Additionally, post-game yoga sessions have become a regular occurrence, promoting physical and mental well-being. The players themselves often set collective goals and rally around a shared vision of success, fostering a sense of purpose and determination. Through motivational talks, they create a space where every player feels valued and empowered to give their best effort. Their journey as devoted athletes is not just about mastering a game but also about personal growth and empowerment. As they transition into their teenage years, they are actively choosing to invest in their development, not only as athletes but as strong, resilient young women. The U14AA Barrie Blizzard completed their goal and milestone achievement for Barrie, at the beginning of January. They were AA Champions and took home gold medals in the 2024 Whitby Tournament. Their journey is not just about winning games. Through their dedication, teamwork, and spirit, they are not just athletes; they are role models, shaping the future of ringette and empowering young girls to pursue their dreams with determination. This month, the Barrie Association hosted its first A level tournament in many years, where the U14AA team spent many hours of their off-ice weekend time volunteering in various roles, showing their commitment to their community and the sport they love. As they prepare for Ringette Ontario Provincials 2024, they have faced impressive opponents, learned from past defeats, continuously improved, and supported each other every step of the way. With every game they play, they aim to showcase Heart, Speed, Grit, and Teamwork. As ambassadors, this U14AA Blizzard team represents Ringette and the Barrie Association proudly."
